Program Description

General intelligence and technical skills are important in the workplace, but to create personal success, one must also possess a high level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ).  Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize, understand and use the power of emotions to facilitate high levels of collaboration and productivity.  In this professional development series, you will become aware of your own Emotional Intelligence and come away with specific action items to build your EQ.

Program Objectives

  • Find out what Emotional Intelligence is and why it is relevant to your success at work
  • Learn about each of the 5 dimensions of Emotional Intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills
  • Discover how fear negatively affects your emotional temperature and your ability to make decisions
  • Find out how anger in the workplace affects actions, decisions, and productivity
  • Come away with specific action items that will increase your emotional intelligence

Program Outcomes

  • Understand the affect of your emotional intelligence on your performance at work
  • Know your level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) as an overall score and specifically in the areas of self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills

Program Outline

The professional development series is composed of ten 1-hour lessons.  The lessons are as follows:

  • Lesson 1 – Introduction
  • Lesson 2 – Dimensions of EQ
  • Lesson 3 – Self-Awareness Defined
  • Lesson 4 – Self-Regulation Defined
  • Lesson 5 – Motivation Defined
  • Lesson 6 – Empathy Defined
  • Lesson 7 – Social Skills
  • Lesson 8 – Fear Defined
  • Lesson 9 – Anger Defined
  • Lesson 10 – Conclusion and Wrap-up

You can complete this series in a format according to your preference.  For example, it can be done as a:

  • Retreat
  • 2-day workshop
  • Four 1/2 day workshops
  • A series of weekly 1-hour “lunch and learn” workshops

The workshop will consist of an emotional intelligence pre-assessment for each participant, small group exercises, informative DVD trainings, and guided discoveries….all facilitated by Coach Caroline Smith.

If you are in a HR, training, or organizational development role, you can also implement this program as a turn-key solution, where Caroline will “train the trainer” and enable you to repeat the program in your organization using your own trainers.
